22 Weeks

Dear Meyer:

As I write this, you are currently making yourself known on the upper right side of my abdomen. I haven't really felt you kick yet, at least not what I believe what a kick would feel like. Mostly I'm getting a lot of little sensations from you...brushes, pops, squirms and the like. Sometimes you hit a nerve in your travels and some part of my body is temporarily flooded by a sharp pain, but it goes away quickly. Your Dad felt you move for the first time this week as he curled up next to me in the early morning hours. We were both incredibly excited to finally be sharing your growth in a more tangible way. I like it when you move because I like to think of you moving around, making yourself home and working on all the things you need to do to get ready for life outside with your Dad and I.

Speaking of you father, tomorrow will be our three week anniversary! Our wedding was an absolutely amazing event. I have loved Drew since just a few days after we became romantically involved, but that day, joining my life to his in such a profound way, and knowing that you are on your way, my love for him became like this perfect shield around me and I felt so incredibly happy, safe and excited. All our family and friends were there and they not only wished us well but are SO excited for you as well! You will definitely be one loved little boy!

A week after the wedding, we found out you are who you are! You are a Meyer Edward instead of a Emily Treasure! The ultrasound was another profound experience. As the tech came upon you from the top and we saw your little head I began to cry because for the first time there you were, real and whole and in our lives! When we found out you are a boy I started sobbing...I was so excited to bring a boy into the family as we have had a run of girls for the past, oh, 29 years or so!

Anyway, Christmas and Chaunaka are coming. (Your uncle wrote a hilarious piece on the differences between the two holidays, but I think I'll save it until you are a bit older.) We are all going to Hawaii for the Holidays. It is ironic because the last time I was in Hawaii I was three and my Mother was pregnant with my sister, your Aunt Lindsey. Now here I am, with you in my tummy, going back to the Pineapple State. We should have fun...get some sun, relax on the beach and, as always, dream of holding you in my arms.

Enjoy your afternoon rubbing against the front of my belly!

Love you so much and always,
Mom
