Counting My Blessings

OK...I know I have a great deal to catch up on and I guess I better do it soon. Well, today or tomorrow as I am being INDUCED on Monday night and Meyer will be here sometime on April 11th! My goodness, I just can't believe it is here! So many months have passed, so many events have happened, so many things have changed and now we are so incredibly ready for him to be here!

Anyway...I had a total 'count your blessings' moment on Friday. We went to the Dr. and my blood pressure was, of course, high. It being Friday which means that I wouldn't get my labs back until Monday my Dr. sent me to Rose for blood pressure monitoring and to get those labs done (she is always worried I'm thisclose to developing preeclempsia). This stay was much shorter than the other two times we've been in for 'observation.' It lasted only about an hour and a half but I complained the whole time to Drew. I was just so sick of my Dr. sending me to the hospital and I just get poked and prodded and then sent home. So...here I am complaining because my Dr. is just trying to make sure that I'm healthy and all of a sudden we run into a guy who was in our pregnancy prep class.

I was shocked to see him there because I knew that his wife was due several weeks after me and since I was just at 38 weeks on Friday I knew it was early. So...come to find out she went into pre-term labor at 32 weeks and had been in perinatal for the past two weeks. She had just hit 34 weeks which is still too early to deliver and she would probably be in the hospital for another several weeks.

It really just made me stop short. 32 weeks was when all of my blood pressure stuff started going to heck but thank god I never went into labor or anything. That would be SO scary...32 week babies will probably survive outside of the womb but they have such an increased risk for all sorts of medical problems and might have developmental issues. Not to mention that being confined to the hospital isn't great either (although I'm glad they got her contractions stopped and she was able to keep the baby in).

So...no more complaints from me about all of our past trips to the hospital and my Dr.'s desire to keep me closely monitored. No more pushing the boundaries of "bed rest." No more feeling of regret about having already missed a month of work by the time Meyer arrives and worrying about finances. I'm just so glad to be having a healthy, full-term baby.

Here's hoping the induction goes well!
